Hustle Builder

Step 1 of 8

Pick your work.

Lawns, snow, or both. You can change it any time.

Put your name on it.

First name only. Never your last name or street address.

Name ideas

Before you pick one, search it online to make sure no business near you already uses it.

Set your rates.

Starter prices to work from. Set them for the yards near you.

Start cheap, then go up.
When you are new, use cheaper prices so lots of people want to try you. As time goes by and you get better, raise your prices little by little.
Remember: when a kid charges a lower price, customers will sometimes give a good tip.

Use the arrows to change the order. Your website and flyers list them top to bottom, and posters show the first four.

Lock in your schedule.

Tap the days you work. Faded days are days off. Then set the hours you are free.

Get paid.

Every booking goes to a parent’s phone or email first. A parent-backed business gets taken seriously, and customers trust it.
Backup parent or guardian (optional)

Choose your look.

Pick your brand color, then pick how your website feels. Choose the ones that look like you.

The big headings on your website.

Show your work.

Before and after photos sell better than anything. Add your best jobs, plus reviews from happy customers. Everything here is optional.

Photos of lawns and driveways only. No people, faces, house numbers, street signs, or license plates. A parent and the customer should both say yes first. We strip hidden location data from every photo. Use a regular JPEG or PNG. iPhone HEIC photos will not load. Save the photo as a JPEG, or a parent can set the camera to Most Compatible.

Before and after

What neighbors say

Only add a review if the customer said you can share it. First names only.

Go live.

A parent publishes the page. You get one link, and it stays the same when you update the page.

Opens the real page in a new tab. It is the same file you download. Try the calendar here. Neighbors only see it after it is online.

Get booking alerts.
Next: print flyers. Every flyer gets a QR code that books you.

Publish

A parent does this on this device. The first time, they verify their email and agree. After that, Update puts the new page on the same link.

Download the file instead

Use this only if Publish is not available. The file still has to be named index.html.

  1. Tap Download my website. If it saved as index (1).html, rename it to index.html.
  2. A parent opens Netlify Drop and signs in first, or the link asks for a password.
  3. Drag index.html onto that page. Paste the link below. Open it in a private window and make sure there is no password.
  4. Changed the page later? Download again and replace the file on the same site so the link does not change.

Your announcement

Land your first ten

  1. Ask five neighbors you already know. Offer a first-job price and over-deliver.
  2. Have a parent post your link in a neighborhood group.
  3. Hand a printed note with your link to every house on your street.
  4. After each job, ask the customer to tell one neighbor.
  5. Text your repeat customers at the start of every season.

Before you go live

Go through these with a parent.

Print and post.

Flyers, door hangers, business cards, a yard sign, and social graphics. Every one has a QR code that books you.

Paste the link you got when you put your site online. No site yet? Pick “Text my parent” above.

Connect your family printer

Hustle Builder can’t talk to a printer by itself. Your phone or computer does that part, and it takes about a minute.

  1. iPhone or iPad: tap Save PDF to print, then tap Share and Print. Pick your printer. Most Wi-Fi printers show up on their own when you’re on the same Wi-Fi.
  2. Android: save the PDF, open it, tap the menu, then Print. If your printer isn’t listed, a parent can add it once in Settings under Printing.
  3. Computer: save the PDF, open it, press Print, and pick the printer.
  4. Settings that matter: Letter paper, scale 100% or Actual size, and Black and white for Ink saver. Print one test copy first.
  5. No printer? Send the PDF to a parent’s computer, or ask your library or a print shop to print it from your phone.

Flyer tip: Never put flyers inside a mailbox. That’s against the law. Tuck them in a door frame or hand them to someone.
